Kenya and Kevin's Wedding at Casa de España, Old San Juan
A San Juan wedding rarely gives you ocean views, four centuries of church architecture and a private social club in the same day. Kenya and Kevin's wedding did exactly that, and I got to document every part of it.
Getting Ready at La Concha Hotel
The morning began at La Concha Hotel, in the bridal suite Kenya had chosen for her getting ready moments. The room faced the ocean, and the light coming through those windows set the tone for the rest of the day.
A few minutes after we arrived, a delivery came in for Kenya. Kevin had sent her a flower arrangement that morning, and watching her read his note before the wedding even started was one of those quiet moments that says more about a couple than any speech later in the night could.
Hair and makeup was in the hands of Enrique Iglesias, who kept the room calm and moving at the right pace all morning.
Kevin's Getting Ready
Once Kenya's session wrapped, we moved to Kevin's room. Groom prep photography often gets less attention than the bride's, but it carries its own energy. There is less primping and more waiting, more nervous energy dressed up as jokes with the groomsmen.
Kevin kept things light with his guys while getting into his tuxedo, and that ease showed up again later during his first touch with Kenya.
Final Touches and a First Touch
We returned to Kenya's suite for her final details, the veil, the shoes, the jewelry. This is usually where a bride goes quiet for a second, taking in what the dress actually means now that it is on.
Kenya and Kevin had planned a first touch before heading to the ceremony, choosing a private moment together over a traditional first look. It gave them a few minutes alone to breathe before the day picked up speed.
Ceremony at Iglesia San Jose
The ceremony took place at Iglesia San Jose in Old San Juan, one of the oldest churches in the Western Hemisphere. Walking into that nave, with its vaulted ceilings and centuries of history, changes how a couple carries themselves down the aisle.
Eleganza Music played live during the ceremony, and having live musicians inside a space with that kind of acoustics adds a layer that a speaker system cannot match. Christian Gonzalez was behind the camera for their wedding film, working alongside me through the ceremony and the exit.
Kenya and Kevin walked out as husband and wife to cheers from their guests, and the church doors framed that first walk together as a married couple.
Behind the Scenes with Utopia Events
None of this runs on time without a planner who knows what she is doing. Neysa Santiago from Utopia Events managed logistics from the morning through the reception. I have worked with Neysa on multiple weddings over the years, and every time they run perfectly. She keeps vendors coordinated without anyone feeling rushed, which is harder to pull off than it sounds.
Reception at Casa de España
The reception moved to Casa de España, a building that looks like it was pulled out of Spain and placed in San Juan. The antique black car from Don Raymond parked outside gave the couple's arrival photos a period feel that matched the venue perfectly.
Lorraines Flowers handled the decor, and the reception room carried that same elegant, romantic feeling from the ceremony into the evening. Their cake, designed by Gabriel Diaz Cake Designer, stood four tiers tall with hand shaped sugar petals cascading down one side. It looked more like a sculpture than a dessert.
DJ Andrew kept the dance floor full most of the night, Alfa Zero Group was in charge of the live music that had everyone dancing all night and the wedding party transportation from Five Star got everyone from the church to the reception without a single delay. Paper Crafts designed the stationery, tying the couple's color palette together from the invitations to the table numbers.
A Day Built on Puerto Rico's History
What makes weddings like Kenya and Kevin's stand out is not one single vendor or one single photo. It is the way Old San Juan itself becomes part of the story. A church built centuries ago, a private club with Spanish architecture, and a beachfront hotel all within a few miles of each other. Few places in the world let a couple move through that much history in a single wedding day.
Kenya and Kevin, thank you for trusting me with your day. Watching you two from that first flower delivery at La Concha to your last dance at Casa de España was a privilege.
