Natalia & Jose: A Condado Vanderbilt Getting Ready and Casa de España Wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Some weddings just carry a different kind of energy from the first hour, and Natalia and Jose's day was exactly that. We started the morning at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, one of my favorite places in San Juan to document getting ready, and by the time we closed out the night at Casa de España, I already knew this was going to be an amazing one.
Getting Ready at Condado Vanderbilt
Natalia and Jose got ready separately, each in their own suite at the Condado Vanderbilt, and I split my morning between the two rooms to capture both sides of the story.
With Jose, we actually had extra time built into the morning, so instead of just documenting him getting dressed, we walked down to the hotel's bar area with his groomsmen. The light in that space is beautiful, and it gave us room to get some relaxed, genuine portraits with his wedding party. We also used that time to bring in his family for a few photos together before the day picked up speed. Those quiet extra minutes ended up being some of my favorite frames from the whole morning.
On Natalia's side, her suite was full of laughter the entire time. Hair and makeup was handled by Enrique Iglesias, and by the time Natalia and her bridesmaids were ready, the energy in that room was electric. I brought my drone out to the suite balcony and got them dancing and celebrating together from above, with the Condado coastline stretched out behind them. It is one of those shots that captures a feeling you cannot really put into words: pure joy, right before everything changes. Caridad Nácer was the planner behind every detail of the day, and her steady hand was obvious from the first minute. Weddings with this many moving pieces only feel effortless when someone experienced is managing the timeline behind the scenes, and Caridad made sure everyone, including me, knew exactly where to be.
The Ceremony at Casa de España
From the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, we headed to Casa de España, where both the ceremony and reception would take place. The ceremony was held in the venue’s beautiful outdoor patio, creating an elegant setting for one of the most emotional parts of the day. Raiza from Tempo de Violines performed live, adding another layer of emotion as Natalia and José exchanged their vows. There were heartfelt tears from family, friends, and the couple themselves, the kind of genuine moments that make every wedding unique.
After the ceremony, we spent a few quiet minutes exploring the grounds of Casa de España for their portraits. Before joining their guests for the reception, Natalia and José were able to slow down, enjoy a few moments together, and take in everything that had just happened. The venue’s historic architecture, elegant courtyards, and beautiful light created the perfect setting for timeless portraits that reflected both the beauty of the location and their connection.
Reception and Celebration
Once we moved upstairs to the reception room, it was time for protocol to begin. Natalia and Jose made their grand entrance with their full wedding party, and the room erupted. Speeches followed, full of stories that had guests laughing one moment and reaching for tissues the next.
Then came the first dances, and this was where the night really opened up emotionally. The couple's first dance, followed by Natalia dancing with her father and Jose dancing with his mother, gave us three completely different, completely moving moments back to back. Vanessa Caro created their wedding cake, a beautiful centerpiece that tied into the reception's overall design. And once the formalities wrapped up, Sin Prisa and DJ Mauricio took over the dance floor and did not let up for the rest of the night. Every generation of guests was out there dancing, which is always my favorite sign that a wedding celebration is going exactly right.
Natalia and Jose's wedding was a full day of emotion, from quiet family moments in a hotel suite to a packed dance floor at one in the morning. Days like this are exactly why I love documenting weddings in Puerto Rico. Every venue brings its own personality, and every couple brings a story worth telling honestly.
