Title: Love in Bloom: An Epic Miami Engagement Session at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens with Veronica & Franz
Destiny in the Making: A Story of a Bouquet, a Garter, and a Flight to Miami
They say you don't choose your clients; sometimes, the universe chooses them for you.
The story of Veronica and Franz didn't start with a formal inquiry or a business meeting. It started on a crowded dance floor in Puerto Rico back in May 2024. I was there documenting the beautiful wedding of Ivelisse, who just happens to be Franz’s mother. It was one of those nights where the energy was electric, and the love was palpable.
As the night reached its peak, it was time for the traditions. Veronica stepped up and, with a bit of luck and a lot of grace, caught the bouquet. Moments later, in a twist of fate that felt like a movie script, Franz caught the garter. At the time, we all laughed and cheered, teasing them about being "next."
Fast forward less than a year later: my phone rings. It was them. They were engaged and planning their dream wedding for 2026. There was no question about who would document their journey. When you build a bond with a family, you aren't just a "vendor" anymore, you become the keeper of their legacy.
The Modern Dilemma: Professional Lives vs. Wedding Planning
Veronica and Franz represent the ultimate power couple. Currently living in the vibrant, fast-paced city of Miami, Florida, they are both dedicated professionals with schedules that leave very little room for error, or for travel.
As they began planning their 2026 wedding in Puerto Rico, they hit a snag: they needed engagement photos for their "Save the Dates," but their workload made it impossible for them to fly to the island for a session.
In the world of luxury photography, "impossible" isn't in my vocabulary. At Gary Rosado Photography, my goal is to provide a seamless, stress-free experience. If my clients can’t come to the island, I bring the island’s creative spirit to them. Without a second thought, I booked a flight to Miami.
Why a Destination Engagement Session is a Game Changer
Many couples wonder if it’s worth the logistics to have their photographer travel. Here is why I believe it’s the ultimate investment:
- Unmatched Comfort: Being in your "home" city allows you to feel more relaxed and authentic.
- Distinctive Style: Your photos will stand out from the local crowd back home.
- The "Full Day" Experience: When I travel for a shoot, I’m not rushing to another appointment. My entire creative energy is dedicated to you.
The Location: Why Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is a Photographer’s Dream
When we discussed locations in Miami, Veronica had a clear vision: Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
If you’ve never been, Vizcaya is a breathtaking estate that transports you straight to the Italian Renaissance. Located in Coconut Grove, it features ten acres of formal gardens, fountains, and architectural marvels that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. For a photographer, it’s a playground of light, texture, and history.
The Strategy: Beating the Miami Heat and the Crowds
To get those iconic, "empty garden" shots you see in magazines, you have to be strategic. We planned for an early morning session.
I hopped on the first flight out of San Juan, landing in Miami just as the sun was beginning to peek over the horizon. Veronica and Franz were there to meet me at the airport, and we headed straight to the Museum. We arrived exactly as the gates opened.
Gary’s Pro-Tip for Vizcaya Shoots:
- The Golden Hour: The first two hours of the day offer a soft, golden glow that is incredibly flattering for skin tones.
- Avoid the Crowds: By 11:00 AM, the tourists arrive. Starting at opening time ensures we have the grand staircases and secret alleyways all to ourselves.
- Climate Control: Let’s be honest, Miami is hot. Shooting early allows us to finish before the humidity peaks, keeping hair and makeup looking flawless.
Behind the Lens: 150 Minutes of Pure Magic
We spent about two and a half hours wandering through the labyrinthine gardens. Every corner of Vizcaya offers a new perspective. We utilized the stone bridges, the intricate gazebos, and the dramatic backdrop of the main house.
What I loved most about this session was the evolution of Veronica and Franz in front of the camera. We started with the "classic" poses, but as we walked and talked, the walls came down. I captured the way Franz makes Veronica laugh, the quiet way they hold hands when they think no one is looking, and the sheer elegance they both radiate.
Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone
As a photographer, it is easy to get comfortable shooting in the same familiar spots. But flying to Miami and working in a different "setting" is what keeps my creativity alive. It forces me to look at light differently and find beauty in new textures. This "creative discomfort" is exactly what allows me to deliver images that are fresh, artistic, and deeply personal to each couple.
Beyond the Photos: Culture, Connection, and Little Havana
The Gary Rosado Photography experience doesn't end when I put the lens cap on. My relationship with my couples is built on genuine connection.
Once the Miami sun began to intensify and we had captured everything we needed, we decided to celebrate a successful shoot. We drove over to Little Havana for an incredible lunch.
There is something special about sharing a meal after a session. Away from the cameras, we talked about their plans for 2026, their life in Miami, and the memories of Ivelisse’s wedding. We shared stories over authentic Cuban food and cafecito. By the time they dropped me back at the airport for my flight back to San Juan, I didn’t feel like I had just finished a "job", I felt like I had spent a day with old friends.
